About Us
Alison B. Kaelin has over 30 years of nationwide experience as a technical leader in quality assurance, construction management, quality control/assurance, safety and health and environmental regulations, and standards related to coatings, steel fabrication and related industries.

​Ms. Kaelin is a recipient of the 2016 SSPC Coatings Education Award, a co-recipient of the inaugural 2014 Women in Coating Award, a 2013 JPCL Editors Award winner, 2012 JPCL Top Thinker of the Decade and 2005 SSPC Technical Achievement Award winner. She has over 30 publications related to coatings, quality assurance, bridge painting and regulatory issues.  

Ms. Kaelin is a member of SSPC, NACE and ASQ.  She chairs the Environmental Monitoring Committee for SSPC responsible for SSPC TU7, “Conducting Ambient Air, Soil, and Water Monitoring During Surface Preparation and Paint Disturbance Activities” (SSPC 00-03) and SSPC Guide 16, Guide to Specifying and Selecting Dust Collectors. She is currently a voting member of multiple SSPC committees.  

Ms. Kaelin has been involved with some of the largest, most complex coatings and corrosion related projects in the nation and has extensive experience in coatings and coatings inspections, environmental, health and safety, specification development/review, regulatory interpretation/compliance, quality and solution development for owners and contractors.   
Projects and clients have included:  NASA, FHWA, SSPC, TBTA, TZC among many others.

​​Ms. Kaelin was a Senior EHS Consultant with KTA/SET Environmental, EHS and QA Manager with KTA-Tator, Inc. and an Air Pollution Engineer with Allegheny County Health Department.
   
Current projects include Deputy Coatings Quality Assurance Manager on the Tappan Zee Bridge (the New NY bridge) replacement project. 

Ms. Kaelin is a principal instructor of the SSPC C-3 Supervisor/Competent Person Training for Deleading of Industrial Structures and C-5 Refresher courses and technical editor of current and previous revisions.
 
​ABKaelin, LLC is a certified DBE (14029) through the DOT Unified Certification Program in Pennsylvania, Illinois and Florida. Licensed provider and principal instructor of the SSPC C-3 Supervisor/Competent Person Training for Deleading of Industrial Structures and C-5 Refresher courses and technical editor of current and previous revisions.

Troy Fraebel, PCS, is the Vice President of Protective Coating Services for ABKaelin, LLC. He has 30 years of experience in the protective coatings industry including extensive experience in the water, wastewater, bridge, petrochemicals, power, mining & metals, and marine markets. Troy is a NACE Certified Coating Inspector – Level 3, an SSPC Protective Coating Specialist, and instructor for several SSPC training courses. He also instructs at the AUCSC.
 
At ABK, Troy provides SSPC C-, C-2, and other training, QP (PCCP) certification services, SSPC CAS mentoring and testing, SSPC-SP 11 worker certification, specification writing and review, coating and business consulting, painting submittal and inspection report review, site audits, QC and QA training, and training program development. Prior to joining ABK, he was a Project Development Manager for the Protective and Marine Division of the Sherwin-Williams Company. In addition, Troy developed the painting quality assurance and maintenance programs for Caldwell Tanks. He was a voting member on the AWWA’s D102 tank painting revision task force, and spent 13 years with KTA-Tator Inc.
 
Troy has authored or co-authored, presented, and published several papers including Corrosion: Knowing the Enemy, Paint Inspection from the Coating Manufacturer’s Perspective, Equifinality:  Specifying Performance, and Up Periscope:  Hunting for the Scope of Work.
 
Troy’s current professional associations include SSPC, NACE International, ASTM International, American Water Works Association, SAME, and numerous rural water associations. Troy holds a B.A. from Western Kentucky University and a Master's in Education from William Paterson College.  
Kim Morrison, Project Manager, has over 25 years of experience in Occupational Safety and Environmental Health working within the manufacturing, government and healthcare sectors. She is a Pennsylvania certified Accident and Illness Prevention Program (AIPP) service provider and is certified in Associate Risk Management (ARM) through the Insurance Institute of America.

Ms. Morrison's helps organizations put into action their safety and health programs by engaging their workforce to embrace a safety culture.     

She performs and oversees environmental and worker monitoring services during lead and hazardous coatings removal and coating application for ABKaelin, LLC on the Birmingham and Liberty bridge rehabilitation projects. She has performed similar services at Penn State University paint removal projects, the 30th Street Station rehabilitation project, among others.

Ms. Morrison has successfully completed SSPC C-3 Supervisor/Competent Person Training for Deleading of Industrial Structures.
      
Karen Coley, Operations Manager, is a NACE Level 1-Certified Coating Inspector with over 30 years of broad based experience in the coating industry.  Karen provides quality assurance reviews of coatings inspection reports and document packages.  She provides logistical support for all ABK projects and oversees subcontractor and strategic partner services.  Karen was previously the coatings group administrator at KTA-Tator, Inc., coordinating their staff of over 100 coatings inspectors.  Karen is currently providing quality assurance services on the Tappan Zee Bridge (the New NY bridge) replacement project.
